I’m doubling down this morning, or at least increasing my stake by 50%+.

I did the same with Toyota stock when their scandal broke, and it was a very profitable move. These recalls will be costly, but I’m banking on the punitive damages being minimal and quantifiable, since we’re not talking about anything that directly contributed to loss of life. When in doubt, the market will price in the worst case impact of the adverse action, which is pretty well known (unlike, say, GM and Toyota where the scope of the malfeasance or accidents kept growing).

Their reputation will be in the shitter for a while, though. And this is totally screwed up. Lots of companies have “gamed” the test (or lied outright, like Ford hybrids) but I’ve never seen such a freakout — probably because the evidence is just so clear.

I’ve been moving more toward cash the past 2 years (mostly as a defensive move), but for the occasional play like this. I don’t gamble or even participate in office football pools — this is my outlet :D
